Texas AFL-CIO Praises Sylvia Garcia on Plan to Resign From Texas Senate

The Texas AFL-CIO today saluted Sen. Sylvia Garcia, D-Houston, on her plan to resign from the Texas Senate, saying she acted in the best interest of her district and the state of Texas.

The state federation's COPE Committee has endorsed Garcia for the Congressional District 29 seat, where U.S. Rep. Gene Green, D-Houston, is retiring.

Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy issued this statement:

"Sylvia Garcia has always stood by working families, and she has always put the best interests of constituents first — just like she did today. Today, by announcing her intent to resign from the Senate once her seat is filled, Sylvia Garcia put her career on the line to make sure her constituents are fully represented at the Capitol in 2019. Some people might be surprised to see a politician taking an action like this; but at the Texas AFL-CIO, we're never surprised to see Sylvia Garcia do the right thing."
