Texas AFL-CIO Statement on Supreme Court Decision Rejecting Texas Attack on Affordable Care Act

The Texas AFL-CIO applauded today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision rejecting Texas’s attempt to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

“Attorney General Ken Paxton has been foiled again in his politicized effort to kill a historic law that has improved the livelihoods of working families and saved countless lives,” Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy said. “The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling today is couched in the legal language of ‘standing,’ but what it really says is this: Texas, butt out.”

“The people of Texas and the vast majority of states support the Affordable Care Act,” Levy said. “Texas political leaders and lawmakers still don’t understand that ACA makes all of us stronger — including Texans with preexisting conditions who gained coverage despite our state’s best efforts.”

“Instead of trying to place millions of Americans in imminent danger that the next injury or accident will ruin them, Texas politicians should put their energy into extending benefits for the nation-leading percentage of Texans who do not have them,” Levy said.
