Texas AFL-CIO Backs ‘Fair Shot’ Legislation for Working Families

An Inclusive Vision for Texas

The Texas AFL-CIO will advocate for its broadest legislative agenda in years – a Fair Shot agenda that empowers Texas working families to improve their lives.

A news conference to discuss the agenda is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Texas AFL-CIO headquarters, 1106 Lavaca St., in downtown Austin. Texas AFL-CIO officers will be joined by working people whose lives are directly affected by actions of this Legislature.

“Working people of Texas are demanding change,” Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy said. “Clinging to yesterday will no longer fly. Voters raised their voices at the ballot box for a different and better agenda, and that momentum is accelerating across Texas. We want priorities placed on laws, now and in the longer term, that provide working families a fair shot at better lives.”

“Tomorrow we will lay out our Fair Shot agenda,” Levy said, “which is not just about pay and benefits, but about what it means to have meaningful work.”

The Texas AFL-CIO will provide parking for reporters who drive to our headquarters. The event will also be live-streamed on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
