The Texas AFL-CIO is excited to announce that Emily Amps will be joining the organization as Director of Politics and Policy. Amps will oversee the state federation’s political and legislative advocacy, growing existing programs and building new ones aimed at advancing the cause of working families in Texas.
Amps currently serves as Chief of Staff for State Rep. Chris Turner, D-Grand Prairie, and as Committee Director for the House Business & Industry Committee, which oversees House consideration of major labor issues. Her broad portfolio of experience at the Legislature and in political operations includes a stint as Deputy Campaign Manager for successful reelections of former U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards.
D'uring my 25-year career in politics, I’ve had the honor of working side-by-side with union activists on issues that matter not only to the 240,000-plus members of the Texas AFL-CIO, but to all Texans,” Amps said. “This new position is an incredible opportunity to play an even bigger role in supporting the labor movement by helping to elect candidates who support our mission and by championing good public policy that supports working women and men across our state."
Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy said the qualities and experience that Amps brings are exactly what working families need in this historical moment.

Amps is scheduled to begin at the Texas AFL-CIO on Dec. 1.
