The Attorney General candidate debate at the Texas AFL-CIO COPE Convention will proceed today despite the absence of candidate Rochelle Garza, who is under hospital care and unable to participate.

The debate between candidates Joe Jaworski and Lee Merritt takes place at 1:30 p.m. today and will be available on the Texas AFL-CIO Facebook page. (Additional note: gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke is scheduled to speak at 1:10 p.m., also with a live Facebook feed.) Reporters wishing to visit other portions of the virtual convention should request a link from Ed Sills by contacting him at ed@texasaflcio.org.

“The Texas AFL-CIO wishes Rochelle Garza a speedy recovery,” Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy said. “We know the remaining candidates will amply demonstrate why the Attorney General’s contest is a top priority for working people on the 2022 ballot.”

The Texas AFL-CIO is the state labor federation consisting of 240,000 affiliated union members who advocate for working families in Texas. The Texas AFL-CIO COPE is our political arm.
