Job Opening - Regional Field Organizer

The Texas AFL-CIO is a statewide labor federation and serves as the leading voice for working families in Texas. The Texas AFL-CIO is seeking a dedicated Regional Field Organizer to work with union leadership, staff and affiliates to build a bigger, broader and more powerful labor movement in the state of Texas, and especially in the North Texas area. We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference in our movement and in our state through organizing, legislative, and political activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work creatively and with purpose every day to build a bigger, bolder and broader labor movement in the state of Texas, particularly in North Texas; Identify, recruit and manage volunteers and coordinate resources in the North Texas region for organizational, political and legislative mobilization. 
  • Work with the Texas AFL-CIO Mobilization Coordinator to design and carry out election campaign plans in targeted areas in coordination with Central Labor Council leadership, staff and affiliates.
  • Organize and carry out membership mobilization for political action campaigns, including block walks, phone banks, and earned media activities on behalf of endorsed candidates and issues in North Texas.
  • Work with member lists and manage voter contacts and voter IDs 
  • Work with Texas AFL-CIO Mobilization Coordinator, along with Central Labor Council leadership, staff, and affiliates to identify leaders and resources to build organizational capacity in key targeted areas.
  • Support the work of YALL (Young Active Labor Leaders), the Texas AFL-CIO Women’s Committee and the Texas Racial Justice Task Force to create space and opportunity for young workers, women and people of color in our movement. 
  •  Other duties as assigned. 

Applicants must have demonstrated strong commitment to the goals and mission of the labor movement. Position is based in the Dallas - Fort Worth area, but may require some travel in Texas. We have a vibrant, supportive workplace that is attentive to the needs of those who work here, however, it is not an easy job, and willingness to at times work long, irregular hours and some weekends is important. Reliable transportation is required. Must also possess organizational skills, be able to work independently and yet function effectively as part of a coordinated team. Computer literacy in the context of campaign work is important. Experience with unions, organizing, volunteer coordination, and/or campaign field work is a must. Bilingual capacity is looked upon with favor.

This position will be funded pursuant to a solidarity grant and is for a period of one year. It is our hope and intention to continue past that time, but we are unable to guarantee that at this time. Very competitive salary ($53,270/yr.) and benefits package, including health care.
