Citizenship Project Coordinator 

The Texas AFL-CIO is a statewide labor federation serving as the leading voice for working families in Texas. We are seeking a Citizenship Project Coordinator to work with our affiliate unions, central bodies and community allies to implement a broad and innovative citizenship campaign which will assist legal permanent residents in Texas who are eligible for citizenship to take the next step and become voting members of our society, and do so in a way so as to help us achieve our goal of building long term political power for working people in this state. The successful applicant will be familiar with and have a demonstrated commitment to the goals of the labor movement, be an effective communicator who can build trust with affiliates, members and allies, be hard working and conscientious, and be willing to serve as a team player in pursuing our goals. The position will remain open until filled, but we are seeking to fill the position as soon as possible. 

Primary Duties 

  • Work with the officers, staff, affiliates and allies of the Texas AFL-CIO in a collaborative manner to design and implement a statewide, labor based citizenship campaign;
  • Design and lead training for union officers, staff and members on the citizenship application process;
  •  Work with unions across the state to identify members who are eligible to apply for citizenship, and facilitate a process to support citizenship applications;
  • Organize community and workplace based events in targeted areas across the state to educate members and the community about the citizenship application process;
  • Coordinate and implement strategies on both a large and small scale to process citizenship applications of target populations;
  • Identify and work with allies and partner organizations to accomplish the goals of the campaign;
  • Implement a civic engagement component for successful applicants;
  • Maintain quality and accessible data to track and document campaign progress.


  • Familiarity with and demonstrated commitment to the labor movement; 
  • Familiarity with and demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and the immigrant community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize large scale and community events.;
  • Ability to work independently while also working cooperatively with others; 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Be fully bilingual and fluent in reading, writing, and communicating in Spanish;
  • Demonstrated experience in building unity among diverse groups and in recruiting and mobilizing others to action;
  • Computer proficiency is required: database/spreadsheet, PowerPoint, e­mail, internet and work processing skills;
  • Must have reliable automobile and ability to travel on a frequent basis as needed and for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to work long and extended hours;
  • Minimum of two years of experience in union or community organizing, including experience working with, or organizing, low wage workers and/or immigrant communities.
