When: Saturday, Sep 5, 2020 - Monday, Sep 7, 2020, (All day)

Monday marks a first-of-its-kind Labor Day for the Texas AFL-CIO.

Ordinarily, officers and staff would travel across the state to cover every breakfast, picnic, barbecue cookout and other holiday celebration of a unique holiday that recognizes the history and future of working people, and especially labor unions, in our nation.

The pandemic has limited physical events socially distanced service projects this year and attendees will arrive virtually, but that does not detract from the spirit of the day. Labor unions remain the most effective means yet devised for working people to demand a true voice on the job and have a real say in their terms of employment. Our history is a point of pride, but our future is bright. As we have seen, workers speaking up together can make a difference not just on pay and benefits, but on matters of racial justice and safety in the pandemic.

We hope to resume seeing our Brothers and Sisters in 3-D before long.

Until then, the Texas AFL-CIO wishes you a wonderful, albeit different, Labor Day.

The Texas AFL-CIO's remote operation will be officially closed Monday, Sept. 7, in celebration of the holiday, though some of us will attend online events. The daily e-mail news will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
