While certain Texas politicians continue efforts to suppress voting, activists are fighting back by registering more voters. Although next year’s elections are the main focus, the November 2 election on amending the Texas constitution gives an important deadline for registering: Monday, October 4.
The Dallas Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans carried out a street action in West Dallas on National Voter Registration Day. While we yelled and waved signs at passing cars, Dallas County officials were registering more voters in the parking lot behind the Dallas West Public Library.
Union locals are reaching out to their members. They are being asked to coordinate their voter registration plans through Dallas AFL-CIO. Helpful registration info is on our web site.
Activists are posting voter registration information on the internet and carrying out public actions to get more voters registered. Information available from Wikipedia and the county election office indicates that about 19% of Dallas County eligible voters have not registered at all. Many registered voters may need to update their addresses before they can legally vote.
