Our new National AFL-CIO President, Liz Shuler, told union leaders on August 26, “Labor Day is the day that we raise our voices!”

It was a fitting time for the first-ever female president, because it was also Women’s Equality Day. Shuler went over the great challenges and opportunities before our labor movement. She expressed high hopes for national legislation on budget reconciliation, infrastructure, voting rights, and the right to organize. Shuler said, “This is our chance. This is our moment! We are going to meet this as one unified federation.”

Texas Voting Rights Fight Continues

Texans are fighting for our freedoms right down to the wire. Newspersons are predicting that the worst anti-voter legislation in America will be sealed and signed by early next week. Over the past months, labor and other progressive organizations have succeeded in exposing anti-voter legislation for what it is; consequently, its perpetrators will face coming elections unshielded.

Lewis Fulbright of Dallas AFL-CIO, the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans and others will speak out for a strong progressive movement on Saturday, August 28, at 2 PM at 1909 Woodall-Rogers in Dallas. Participants are asked to be masked and socially distanced.
