The annual Dallas MLK Jr March and Parade will begin at 9AM on Saturday, January 20, at Gate 6 of Fair Park, where MLK Blvd intersects Robert B Cullum Blvd. It was postponed from January 15 because of predictions of low temperatures, snow, and ice. As has been the case for well over 40 years, Dallas labor will participate. In fact, even before the postponement, Dallas AFL-CIO Principal Officer Lou Luckhardt had announced, "If they have it, I'm going!"

Denton labor activist Joshua Hatton believes that the Denton celebration may also be postponed. One of their honored speakers will be UAW Local 2360 President Cleo Wynn Sr of Carrollton. He distinguished himself with leadership in the recent Autoworkers strike.

YALL Makes Changes

Rose Curts is stepping down as Co-Chair of the DFW Young Active Labor Leaders. Her replacement will be Stu Becker. Both are distinguished activists with the school employees' union, Alliance/AFT, and with the Dallas AFL-CIO. YALL has done great things and more are expected.

Candidate Screening Continues

Affiliated members of the Dallas AFL-CIO continue screening candidates at 9 AM on Saturday, January 13. Our recommendations will go to the state federation by January 19 so that final endorsements can be completed at the state political conference January 28-29. Local candidate screening will follow.

The January 6 screening sessions went well and according to plan. Labor’s endorsement is a prize sought by many candidates who have all levels of understanding about working families. Candidates may be preparing by finding out what “AFL-CIO” stands for, what “Right to Work(SCAB)” means, and, if they used artificial intelligence, how to erase “ChatGPT” off their responses to the questionnaire.
