As the jaws of crises clamp down on working families, Labor Day shines as a beacon of hope. Last year’s Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Day Breakfast set attendance and fund-raising records because we recognize labor’s leadership in the fight for working families. Major contributors pitched in. Individuals contributed $35 each.
Everything will be on-line this year. We will reach far more people with labor’s message. Individuals are being asked for only $15. The major contributors are responding positively with checks to “Dallas AFL-CIO, 1408 N Washington#240, Dallas TX 75204 or using our PayPal Icon.
Our three major awards for outstanding work will be presented. Labor-endorsed candidates will be introduced. Among confirmed appearances so far are the President of the Texas AFL-CIO, Rick Levy; labor’s candidate for Senator M.J. Hegar; our candidate for Congressional District 24, Candace Valenzuela; dynamic State Representative Terry Meza; and outstanding Judge Brandon Birmingham. The Political Committee will make further decisions on Monday.
Save the Post Office
The American Postal Workers Union reported that over 100,000 Americans signed up to lead rallies on August 25. Dallas activists had already begun on August 22, then turned out again on the National Day of Action. APWU Dallas President Jared Wonde and Dallas AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Lewis Fulbright were at the Main Post Office on Hiway 30. Seniors made a good showing among the concerned citizens.
Newspersons were not able to ignore the American determination to save the Post Office. The Dallas Rally drew good coverage including a video from NBC5.
