Your Dallas AFL-CIO continues to unite unions and the progressive movement to defend and extend the rights of working families. We’re working at the local, state, and national levels.

Contact jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com and apply to support our Political Committee before the February 13 on-line meeting. They will make recommendations for candidate selection and political activities to the Central Labor council on February 16. February 17 is the filing deadline for local candidates. Early voting begins April 24.

We’ll be working with Texas AFL-CIO to defend our schoolchildren, raise pay, and get COLA protection against inflation. The National AFL-CIO guides our work in Washington. They expect a shock to American health care and the economy when special pandemic funding is cut off even though more than 500 of us are dying from COVID each day!

Sign up for labor’s Solidarity Brigade.

It’s Black History Month

The labor movement and the civil rights movement draw strength from one another. The Dallas Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans kicked off Black History Month with a fun lesson from Tony Chenevert of Alliance/AFT. Assignments for reports will continue into the March 1 meeting.

Texas retirees will screen the movie “Power to Heal” on-line at 6:30 PM on February 7. The powerful film reminds us that Black Americans often died outside hospitals and doctor offices because they could not get health care, then recounts the political effort to desegregate by passing Medicare.

Passing Medicare took a great effort
