Communications Workers Local 6215 invites all progressives to help boost early voting with a rally downtown at 10AM October 13, the first day of early voting. We meet at the County Courthouse, 600 Commerce Street, socially distanced and masked.
Union leaders and our supporters continue mailing, texting, and calling to get out the vote. Organizer Earnest Tilley expects to see State Representative Rhetta Bowers among us along with candidates Joanna Cattanach and Jasmine Crockett. Activists who work with labor are doubly effective because they are not only helping with the immediate problem but also helping build a strong democratic movement to face all future challenges.
Display your signs encouraging voting. Remember that a street action is not a social gathering but an intentional public display of our cause. Keep in mind that TV news cameras also have microphones and that a good sound track adds to the value of videos.
Youth Leads!
Young people are stepping up in labor's political battles. Two members of CWA 6215, Britni and Candice did most of the work at the most recent phone bank. Travis Cantwell of the Plumbers & Pipefitters (UA100) has been a stalwart since the program began. Travis has successfully urged other members of Young Active Labor Leaders (YALL) to join in. One of the former members of North Texas YALL who is presently the youngest president of a state AFL-CIO, Kooper Caraway, recently responded to the question, "What do young labor leaders need from the old guard?" He replied, "Trust!"
