Heat Unites Labor

Climate change isn’t the only thing overheating the atmosphere in Texas. The labor movement continues to merge our unions and allies during what is probably the hottest year for labor action since 1946!

President Levy address the convention

Rick Levy, President of the Texas AFL-CIO, told convention delegates this week that our efforts on climate change, immigrant rights, and civil rights for all are intensifying. The convention also committed to a new and aggressive approach to statewide organizing.

Today's statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that unemployment dropped to 3.5%. Low unemployment is another green light for hotter and hotter labor actions!

Fight for Water Breaks!

The Governor of Texas has the power to allow a special session to restore municipalities' ability to require water breaks. Labor is demanding it! No worker deserves to die on the job. Join us in demanding Gov. Abbott take action NOW: https://act.aflcio.org/letters/statewide-heat-protections/

Civil Rights Gets a Big Boost

Dallas' own Reverend Doctor Frederick D Haynes, III

The Dallas AFL-CIO sent congratulations to our Reverend Doctor Frederick D Haynes, III when he took over the national movement for the retiring Reverend Jesse Jackson. Dr Haynes responded: “I look forward to working with you. As you know, Rev Jackson and Rainbow PUSH have a great track record of working with labor in the fight for living wages, worker rights and safe working conditions. That commitment will continue. Thanks for all you do.”
