Dallas Marches for Justice

The Dallas Mega March of April 8, 2017 had broader goals than the pro-immigrant march of 2006.

Turnout in 2017 was much higher than the police estimate of 3,200 published in the Dallas newspaper. Tens of thousands marched. Elaine Lantz and I personally saw Dallas AFL-CIO President George Rangel and Political Director Lorraine Montemayor. Joe Montemayor of the State Employees marched, and several members of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans were there. The Service Employees (SEIU) had their own banner and contingent.

Although the newspaper skipped over it, Congressman Marc Veasey was a featured speaker. He also took part in the march. Veasey has championed democracy with legal actions against Texas voter suppression and redistricting laws. A federal judge has twice held that Texas intentionally discriminated against minority voters.
