The Dallas AFL-CIO continues to support progressive events.

Town Hall Meeting for Paid Sick Time

Join us at the Dallas Paid Sick Time Town Hall at 4PM on Saturday, August 11, at 334 Centre Street. We will continue to build popular support to win sick time for all the working people in Dallas.

At the Dallas City Council meeting on  August 8, activists found that politicians are continuing to resist the popular movement for paid sick time. Our goal is to let the people decide during the November elections. City politicians have the option of passing it through the council, as Austin did.

Rally with Communications Workers

The Communications Workers of America are rallying at 3PM today, August 10, at the AT&T Building, 4100 Bryan in Dallas. They ask that we wear red or union colors. This action is part of a national movement called, "Where's the jobs road trip?” Dallas AFL-CIO Political Director Lorraine Montemayor says, “Please come out and show some Dallas UNITY!”

Labor Day Support Builds

Principal officer Mark York writes: “The single largest Labor Day event in the State of Texas is shaping up to be another "Star Studded" Labor Celebration with confirmed guests such as UFCW International President Marc Perrone, ATU International Secretary Treasure Oscar Owens, Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy, Texas AFL-CIO President Emeritus John Patrick and Texas Democratic party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa.

‘There are still some seats and sponsorships available and we encourage everyone to please become a sponsor to continue with your successes. Lets continue the great work building Labors Positive Progressive Workers Agenda in Dallas!”

Labor’s main event takes place at 8:30AM on Monday, September 3, at Eddie Deen Ranch, 944 S. Lamar. Contact Lewis Fulbright at lfulbri649@aol.com or 214-354-9516 for tickets or information. August 15 is the deadline.

Let’s Run a Unionist for City Council

Dallas AFL-CIO Principal Officer Mark York is looking for a union member to run for District 4 of the Dallas City Council this November. The seat was vacated this week by the disgraced Councilman Caraway. The filing deadline is August 15th to August 23rd.

Contact Mark York at dallasaflcio@gmail.com or Lorraine Montemayor at  lmontemayor.dallasaflcio@gmail.com.

Let’s Organize!

Volunteers are needed to form an Organizing Committee for the purpose of advocating more union membership in our area. When unemployment is low and discontent is high, it’s the best time for union membership to grow. If you agree, contact Gene Lantz at genelantz19@gmail.com or 214-942-4236.
