The Dallas Labor Day Breakfast has steadily grown for several years. This year will set a record in participation! Even though union people form the core for the event, there will also be more participation from church, community, and political organizations. Fortunately, the venue and parking arrangements at Eddie Deen Ranch are also bigger and better than last year.

The increased participation reflects the importance of the 2018 elections, the overall progressive movement, and the central role played by the AFL-CIO.

A few tickets are expected to be available at the door.

Labor Day Is Big Everywhere

Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy’s Labor Day Statement is available on-line. It begins: “This year marks the 125thtime Labor Day has had status as an official federal holiday, While some issues faced by working people have not changed from the first celebrations, the labor movement in Texas has become more diverse and more focused on providing a fair shot to working families who do not have the benefit of union contracts.”

Since 1882, American workers have celebrated Labor Day in early September. The Dallas celebration is one of the biggest.

AFL-CIO Helps with Citizenship

On August 31, AFL-CIO leaders Mark York, George Rangel and Lorraine Montemayor met with a new committee that will assist Texas workers in attaining citizenship. Judy Bryant represented retirees. The project is statewide and involves community groups with long experience in organizing the undocumented.
