Every contact we make moves us closer to winning the November elections. Progressives are moving through neighborhoods, using the internet, and telephoning potential voters. It all counts. Even if all we learn is that a telephone number is no good, we have improved our information base and moved ahead!

The Dallas AFL-CIO held a special phone banking night on September 25 as part of the national voter registration day. While eating pizza and chocolate cake, we called hundreds of people to offer to help them get registered.

The deadline for registering is October 9. Most of the easy registration process can be done on-line. Check our web site for instructions.

The Dallas Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans is tapped into a data base of thousands of older voters. The older voters have a much higher participation rate than others. They are especially important in low-turnout elections – and Texas has the lowest rate in the nation! Contact Judy Bryant at judy4tara@aol.com or 214-729-0063 to schedule your participation.

The Communications Workers of America invite everyone to participate in their phone bank beginning at 5 PM on Octobert 2 at 1408 N Washington. Contact Herb Keener hwkjr54@sbcglobal.net 214-543-3078.

With personal outreach, working families will overcome the flood of corruption that the millionaires are bringing into our electoral system. Political Director Lorraine Montemayor can help you optimize your own outreach efforts. Contact her at lmontemayor.dallasaficio@gmail.com or 214-448-1557.

Stage Handlers Step Up

The majority of the activists working the phones at 1408 N Washington on September 25 were from the IATSE Local 127. One of their members, Rich Davenport, will appear on the “Workers Beat” radio program, 89.3FM, at 9 AM on Saturday, September 29. Listeners will have an opportunity to learn about one of the oldest unions in America, what they do and why these elections matter to them. The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees was started in 1893.
