The Fight Gets Hotter

America's unions are facing unprecedented attacks.  As this is written, national AFL-CIO is working desperately to prevent the confirmation of anti-worker executive Andrew Puzder as Secretary of Labor. We're fighting efforts to create a national "right to work/scab" bill. We're fighting national and state efforts to undermine public sector unions. We're working against racist efforts to divide us with anti-immigrant/refugee Executive Actions. To make it clear that we stand on the side of solidarity, the National AFL-CIO web site publishes instructions for anyone approachedby immigration officials.

Fortunately for our side, fightback mobilizations have never been bigger. Will American workers fall behind or will solidarity prevail?

Stand Strong at Dallas Commissioner's Court

County Judge Clay Jenkins has been a reliable friend of Dallas workers, even to the extent of joining us on picket lines and rallies, as he did January 28 at DFW Airport. The Dallas AFL-CIO asks that we stand with him and our other friends at the Commissioner's Court as they continue to fight on the side of solidarity.

Say No to "Anti-Labor Secretary"

This comes from the national AFL-CIO President:

"Big news! The hearing for President Donald Trump’s nominee for labor secretary, Andrew Puzder, has been delayed again. There are also reports that Puzder is considering dropping out of the running for the position.

'The pressure we’re putting on our senators is working, but we need to keep it up. They need to hear us loud and clear: Puzder would be a disaster for working families.

'His anti-worker record could fill a book:

  • He’s railed against increasing the minimum wage and expanding overtime.
  • He’s shortchanged workers at his Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants and even refused to pay managers overtime they earned.
  • He’s talked about replacing working people with machines.

'And after all that, he wants to be put in charge of our country’s labor laws? We don’t think so.

'You can take action right now to make sure Puzder never gets the chance to enact his anti-worker agenda.

'Click here to call or dial 1-866-829-3298 to tell your senator to oppose Andrew Puzder.

'The Department of Labor directly touches the lives of all working people. It impacts our paychecks, safety in the workplace and our ability to exercise our legal rights on the job. With so much on the line, it’s vitally important that we make our voices heard.

'In Solidarity, Richard Trumka, President, AFL-CIO"

Labor Questions Supreme Court Pick

National AFL-CIO asks everybody to call their Senators to urge them to be careful about confirming Judge Gorsuch for the Supreme Court. His record indicates a consistent preference for corporatations over working people.

Senator Cornyn's number is: 202-224-2934. Senator Cruz is 202-224-5922.

If you have any questions regarding the Gorsuch nomination, please contact AFL-CIO National Campaign Coordinator Maya Goines at mgoines@aflcio.org.
