Allred Deserves Support

Colin Allred is one of the labor’s most important candidates in the entire United States. If he wins the primary runoff, he has a real chance to take out one of the most anti-worker congresspersons, Pete Sessions in District 32. Allred joined the union when he played in the National Football League and is a member today.

Emmanuel Vinton of the UNITE-HERE union proudly presented Allred a $5,000 check at the May Labor Council meeting.

Register All Union Members to Vote

Harrison Hiner told the May Labor Council that approximately 13,000 union members in Dallas County are not registered to vote. He asked all union locals to contact him to get expert help from the Texas AFL-CIO. His email is harrison@texasaflcio.org and his phone is 903-445-0302

Dallas Workers Need the Right to Sick Time

DJ Garza and Travis Cantwell reported that Young Active Labor Leaders are working all-out on the petitioning campaign for a ballot initiative to win paid sick time for all workers in the City of Dallas. They are going to union meetings to collect signatures and talk to people about joining their active youth group. June 11 is the deadline for signatures.

Mark York: “You Are Never Alone!”

Dallas AFL-CIO principal officer Mark York spoke to environmentalists who were protesting at the Chase Bank stockholders’ meeting in Plano on May 15. JP Morgan Chase is charged with being the principal financier of fossil fuel polluters. Many of the 50 protesters were Native Americans from Oklahoma and Louisiana.
