Dallas Labor Knows the Problem

The problem in America is that the wealthy are enriching themselves while pushing the rest of us down.

The immediate problem is that their stooges in Congress are dead set on making inequality much worse with their "Tax Deform" bill.  It offers gigantic giveaways to corporations and wealthy families -- and budget cuts for the rest of us. Labor is particularly upset because it would encourage corporations to outsource more jobs by ending the taxes on overseas profits!

This comes from Steelworkers President Leo Gerard: "This will kill American manufacturing and American jobs. Factories will flee even faster to low-wage, high-pollution countries like China where Republicans will absolve them from paying any U.S. income taxes at all! "

Fight Back!

Texas retirees invite everyone to call Congress with the free hotline:

They have also found a way to influence non-Texans by participating in a nationwide virtual phone bank. Click this link for instructions:  Stop the Tax Scam Virtual Phone Bank.

Herb Keener of CWA 6215 will conduct a class on "Runaway Inequality" at 11 AM tomorrow, December 2, at 1408 N Washington. The local has also announced a major rally at Senator Cruz’ Office on Hall Street. Meet at 1408 N Washington at 10AM. For more info, call Jessica Ramirez at (512) 595-2757.

Build the Progressive Movement

The time that any person or organization could accomplish anything by themselves is over. AFL-CIO leader Mark York wants all of us to volunteer to help with candidate screening after the December 11 candidate's deadline. We intend to interview every candidate in the county who wants labor's help. Contact AFL-CIO at lmontemayor.dallasaflcio@gmail.com.

York appeared, broken leg and all, at the Dallas Peace and Justice Center annual awards banquet on November 30. Around 300 potential allies for labor were there. They represented peace, environmental, civil liberties, and civil rights activists who usually have the same goals as working people. Beginning last year, labor has been recognized with awards at the banquet.
