“Our candidates are going to win,” announced principal officer Mark York at the August 16 Central Labor Council meeting. Labor has a proven track record, we have chosen candidates who are outstanding on working people’s issues, and evidence is pouring in about electoral successes in other states.

Our success is never given to us, but comes from hard work and careful planning. Political Director Lorraine Montemayor has already laid out a blizzard of activities for the last months of this political season. More volunteers are always needed, so she asked that everyone contact her at lmontemayor.dallasaflcio@gmail.com.

Candidates know the importance of labor’s support and are evident whenever union people congregate. Among those drawn to the latest Council meeting were judge candidate Pamela Luther, Congressional candidate Dan Wood, and State Rep candidate Brandy Chambers. Gubernatorial candidate Lupe Valdez has moved her campaign headquarters into the building where the AFL-CIO meets.

Labor won a resounding victory against so-called “Right to Work” in Missouri. In Wisconsin, union member Randy Bryce won the Democratic Party nomination and received 6,000 more votes than the Republican hoping to replace Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
