Texas AFL-CIO Statement on the Conclusion of the Senate District 14 Special Election

Austin, TX - Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy issued the following statement on the conclusion of the Senate District 14 special election.
“The labor movement owes a debt of gratitude to Representative Eddie Rodriguez and Senator-elect Sarah Eckhardt for the ways in which they each elevated the voices of working families in the special election for Senate District 14.
“We want to especially acknowledge Representative Rodriguez. Eddie Rodriguez has always worked to champion the priorities and values of working families throughout his time in the Capitol, and he has continued to represent and fight for the people in his district even as he ran this campaign. Eddie Rodriguez has delivered for working families in the State House, and we have deep respect for the decision he has made to return to that fight. His leadership and experience will be invaluable in facing the challenges that lay ahead. We know Eddie Rodriguez will help set a bold agenda for the future of Texas, and we look forward to continuing to work with him.
“We also congratulate Senator-elect Sarah Eckhardt on her victory in this race. As Travis County Judge, Sarah Eckhardt worked hand-in-hand with union leaders across central Texas to raise wages, improve job training and safety standards, and to support good union jobs. We are also excited that SD 14 will have its first female Senator, bringing her important life experience to the state Capitol. We look forward to fighting for working families with her in the Texas Senate.”
